Avoncliff is a small hamlet in Wiltshire. Avoncliff is dominated by the Avoncliff Aqueduct, built in 1797 by John Rennie; it carries the Kennet & Avon Canal over the River Avon. Avoncliff has a tiny railway station, trains must be requested to stop, it is one-carriage-length platforms in each direction, trains operated by First Great Western pass through hourly, generally on their way to Bristol Temple Meads, Cardiff or Portsmouth
