(April Fool) Lap Dancing Club planned for former Bath Press Site

01 April 2012

Following unsuccessful planning applications by amongst others Dyson & most recently Tesco, it looks as if FP Adult Entertainment ltd will be given the green light by local Councillors to press ahead with plans to open the South West’s largest lap dancing club on the old Bath Press site.

In a move that is sure to encounter local residents opposition, the council is keen to have the site developed after coming in for criticism for turning down previous applications to redevelop the site.  Although a sticking point to any redevelopment has always been the issue of traffic along the lower Bristol road.

One councillor who spoke to us under the cloak of anonymity said “let’s face it Bath has been loosing sex tourists to Bristol for many years. With 1.5 million visitors to Bath every year, we have to accept that Bath is missing adult entertainment. We have to step into the 21st century and what with the impending decision on where to locate our first Casino the natural next step is to make provisions for those seeking adult entertainment”.

Tesco giving up on its own planning application and allowing its developers, who own the land, to sell to FP Adult Entertainment Ltd, has made the move possible. It is thought that the plan is especially appealing to the local authority as opening hours would be in the evening and so any traffic generated would be out of rush hour with minimal impact.

Guide2Bath has seen the plans and spoken to the FP’s head of communications Avril Foley, who has spoken of a desire to regenerate the site, making provision for various themed rooms (including it’s rumoured a life size replica of the Roman Baths), a restaurant and even a VIP area reserved for local big wigs.

It's certainly going to attract controversy, but it looks like finally a new use for the former Bath Press site has been found.

Editors Note: As it's now April 2nd, we're happy to reveal this is an April Fools! We appear (judging by comments on Twitter, we took many of you in, others were more sceptical)!
