Description:
A new exhibition opens at the Fashion Museum in Bath on 04 February and taking pride of place will be the catsuit worn by Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams at the Vancouver games in 2010.
Sport and Fashion is a brand new exhibition that explores the close links between active sportswear and fashion by showcasing historic items from the museum’s vast collection alongside modern fashion and some of the very latest cutting-edge sportswear.
Fashion has always borrowed inspiration from sport, both in the fabrics used and in the look and style of garments. One designer whose work will feature in the exhibition is Pam Hogg; Pam has designed second skin stage-wear for the pop star Jessie J which has a definite sporty feel to it.
The museum’s collection of historic dress contains many examples of sportswear, the selection that will be on display in the new exhibition includes a cream wool suit with red and blue stripes worn by a member of the Park Tobogganing Club in London in the 1880s; beautiful tailored Victorian riding habits; monogrammed silk tennis dresses from the 1920s and swimsuits and swimming costumes for men and women.
The exhibition will open on 04 February and will run throughout the year, closing on New Year’s Eve.
The Fashion Museum is located in the Assembly Rooms in Bennett Street. Adult admission costs £7.50. A combined ticket for the Fashion Museum and the Roman Baths is available for £15.75. Concessions are available for senior citizens, children and students and there is also a discounted family ticket. Residents of Bath and North East Somerset are admitted free on production of a Discovery Card.
