What’s on in Bath over the Weekend

27 January 2012

Description:

We’re almost at the end of another week and, unbelievably, close to the end of the first month of the year; Guide2Bath has been taking a look at what’s going on in the city this weekend and has come up with a few suggestions for you.

Bath’s theatre-goers will be spoilt for choice this weekend.  At the Theatre Royal the Agatha Christie classic Murder on the Nile is being performed by a host of stars including Kate O’Mara, Dennis Lill and Susie Amy; there are shows on Friday and Saturday; in the Ustinov Studio Rhum and Clay present Shutterland, an Edinburgh smash hit that combines physical theatre with absurdist humour; while at the Egg Pluck present Musical Arson, an hour-long show aimed at children aged six and above and their families.

At the Rondo in Larkhall Rogue Theatre present the Dancer and the Devil which blends showmanship and poetry with spectacle, narrative and dance, not to mention live music and a wild spirit.  There are performances on Friday and Saturday evening.

The Next Stage Theatre Company at the Mission Theatre is staging Jez Butterworth’s Jerusalem; the play has been a huge success on Broadway, at London’s Royal Court Theatre and in the West End and it is being performed in Bath for the first time.  The play can shock, it contains bad language and themes of an adult nature but it has also been described as one of the best dramas of the 21st century.  There will be performances at 7.30PM on Friday and Saturday.

The Bell in Walcot Street will have a Latin flavour on Friday night when K’Chevere takes to the stage and on Sunday the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists will be entertaining the lunchtime customers with an acoustic set.

At Komedia on Friday night there will be high camp comedy, risqué song and Victorian Villainy from the Ministry of Burlesque.  Meal deals are available for those who like dinner with their cabaret.

As this is the last weekend of the month it’s time once again for Bath V&A to take over Green Park Station on Sunday.  Visitors to the Vintage and Antique fair will find high quality furniture, clothes, clocks, cameras, homewares, silverware, jewellery and more, plus a pop-up tea shop and live music.

Also on Sunday there will be a celebration of the Lunar New Year, organised by the Museum of East Asian Art, the action takes place there and at the Assembly Rooms and a highlight is bound to be the spectacular Lion and Dragon dances.  The event will be open from 11.30AM until 4.00PM.

Our round-up of events ends up back at the Theatre Royal where, on Sunday night, Balletboyz: The Talent will perform in an explosive feast of exhilarating live dance.  The troupe has been handpicked at open auditions by the original Balletboyz, Michael Nunn and William Trevitt and their programme will include choreography from Russell Maliphant, Paul Roberts and Jarek Cemerek.  The show will begin at 7.300PM.
